When will Narcolepsy ever be taken serious?

Hey everyone how are we all doing?  Everyone finishing up with their Christmas season, and getting ready for the New Year?  Madison, Tasha and I had a great holiday season, and we're ready to bring in the new year, and all the adventures that will be coming with it.  It has been a little too long since my last post and I apologize to all my visitors for that.  I'm making a few New Year's Resolutions for 2007 and posting at least every other day is one of them.

But my this post which may be my final one of 2006 is focusing on "why Narcolepsy seems to be a joking matter to so many?"  I mean anyone who doesn't know much about Narcolepsy, will relate it 9 time out of 10 to the movie Deuce Bigelow.  Or they refer to it when you fall into a narcoleptic sleep after eating too much, or a husband suddenly gets "Narcolepsy" when his wife is taking to him.  I hear it put into so many different contexts it just bugs the living day lights out of me.

Any one else tired of our disorder being referred to as anything other then a mental sleep disorder.  I mean yeah people I know, people I work with family and friends all crack jokes about falling asleep behind the wheel or I could name a huge amount of things said to me or jokes made.  What do I do, I just laugh with them because I know the real seriousness of our disorder, but too many people don't.  I wonder to myself sometimes if I shouldn't laugh because maybe they would get the point that truthfully it is not a laughing matter, but then I figure why bother if no one of importance wants to take our cause serious and help get the awareness out into the public eye.

Now don't get me wrong I know Isiah Washington has given many efforts to promoting Narcolepsy Awareness and I truly appreciate all he has given.  But I just wonder if there will ever be anyone else who with be willing to step up and help?

Well folks please give me and everyone one else your thoughts and opinions on this matter.

Best Regards In Health,

Living Narcoleptic

Happy New Year.... Jason when people Joke about your sleep its OK to laugh with them but try when the laughing is done to give them a unknown fact about what most people dont know about what your dealing with....

Just maybe it will make them think about what someone then do or dont know is dealing with in silence....
