"I LOVE YOU", wow to think that the phrase most people use at least once a day(in my opinion that is) could trigger a cataplexy attack.  So, do you really believe that is possible?  I mean I know certain emotions bring on Cataplexy but WOW.  I don't know what I would do if that was my situation.  I hope that doctors would try to help an individual with situations like this.

Well guys and gals after surfing the net I stumbled across a story about a woman with this exact problem.  She has said that even telling a joke will trigger an attack.  I feel like I got shafted with Narcolepsy, but this poor woman and any others with issues like her need help more then I do.  I honestly don't know if I could live without showing emotions to family and friends.  Maybe it is easy for me to say but I think I would just prepare myself and anyone around me that I may have an attack.  I mean yes it would definitely get annoying, may even be dangerous to yourself, but I feel I would take the risks in order to show emotions to the ones I love.

I hope everyone read's the article.  I am also very interested in finding out what everyone else thinks they might do in this womans situation?  I hope some of you decide to get in this discussion.

Best Regards In Health,

      Hello,

After reading Mrs Richmond's I am very sorry for her situation...

It is estimated that 25 people are suffering with narcolepsy out of every 100,000 people in the United States, with an estimated 125,000 individuals diagnosed with the disorder.

Narcolepsy is thought to strike individuals with a genetic predisposition, as it is most commonly repeated in certain families. Generally, narcolepsy develops during adolescence, with most individuals diagnosed between ages ten and twenty.

However, some people are diagnosed in early childhood, and some elderly may also experience the sudden onset of sleep attacks. Some studies specify that the effects of narcolepsy wane with age, even though this remains in dispute.

Everyone needs a good night sleep... lack of sleep or over sleeping or day time sleepiness everything is problem for us....well there are 101 ways to get good night sleep that information is gathered from various sleep sites I hope it will help others by sharing here...

      hi,
I just wanted to tell you that I am another that suffers from cataplexy. I am the first to admit it sucks! I am not sure really how severe it is. Here is an example, I can't watch America's Funniest Home Videos. Now this show to stupid but it totally triggers my cataplexy so I avoid it. I lived with cataplexy from the time I was about 19 to 30. I went to doctor after doctor and they would all look at me funny when I would day that I would flop around everytime I laughed. I think in a way since I lived with it for so long, I just got really good at hiding it. I will say now though that I do not give a shit. If I start flopping oh well! Anyway, I am sorry that you feel shafted I know it totally sucks having narcolepsy. If you ever need to talk to someone about it I am here.
